Turkey Ride!

This is a great find griphus. I want to play these so bad now. Especially Torpedo Attack.

Wow, this is fantastic. I'm already drawn to older arcade games/pinball machines in familiar forms and themes. This is a gold mine I never knew existed.

Now imagine being a six-year-old obsessed with everything computer-related -- especially video games -- and going from playing these to coming to America and practically shitting yourself over Street Fighter II.

That is my immigration story. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

As a kid, those arcade games where you had to put your face up to the viewfinder freaked me out. They made me nervous. I loved loved loved Battlezone, but was too nervous because I couldn't see what was going on in the arcade around me.

There's a pizza place near my house with an arcade that has a similar look and feel to this one, albeit a lot smaller. It's full of half-broken games from 15 years ago. Something about that room gives me the creeps, too. Like one of the games is going to start talking to me and say things about me it shouldn't know.

Okay, last thing, I promise. You can play a simulation Morskoi Boi (Sea Battle) online. This was my single favorite game. Unfortunately, it does not reproduce the feeling and smell of that big, cold rubber visor against your forehead, nor the complete immersion provided by it.

Screwed that link up.

Wow, I remember playing a machine almost exactly like Torpedo Attack, here in the US during the pre-digital pinball era.

Some of these, like the light gun game, would be really fun to build with an Arduino. Thanks, griphus!

It's almost too good to be true that there's actually a USSR arcade game named "Turnip".

Fucking awesome.

This is just amazing.

If you are ever in CO, go to Manitou Springs and visit the arcade -- a couple hundred classics (pinball, video, pre-video) from several eras. And -- all OUTDOORS, mind you! (it doesn't rain much)

Now this is like a parallel universe of games just waiting to be discovered. Kind of like Apple ][ vs Speccy :)

For the mame freaks out there, there is a nice package of East German games entitled Poly-Play, which to my knowledge is the only video game ever made in East Germany.

Really, really good stuff and apparently totally legal, as nobody will claim a copyright for it. It is a multi-game pack.

I appreciate these kinds of posts, as I fear a lot of USSR and satellite ephemera is just going to disappear with time.

I played that game during a recent trip to the Pacific Pinball Museum. The name's not jumping out at me on their collections page though.

IIRC the sodas from those soda machines were delish. Were the ones we had birch tree flavoured or apple? Can't remember. Probably the best 3 kopeks I ever spent.

Love it! It's always great when somebody investigates an old internet meme or story and gives it some context.
